Children for Peace in Ireland
Trip of 2007
Saturday, June 30

Rain and unseasonably cool temperatures in the mid-60's greeted the kids and their chaperones when they landed at Kansas City International airport at about 4:30 p.m. Kansas City time - fully 15 minutes ahead of schedule! The bags came up right away, and after a quick group picture

everyone headed out to board the "Magic Bus" for the trip to meet up with the host families at Wil Jenny's restaurant in Overland Park, Kansas.
The energy was high at Wil Jenny's, where the host teens and their families had been eagerly waiting, and new friendships and "family ties" were soon developing over heeping plates of delicious barbecue.

Though everyone was having a great time, it was finally time to load up and head to the host homes to get settled in and rested up for the two weeks ahead!
Sunday, July 1

The sun finally showed itself after hiding behind the clouds for several days, and it was just in time as everyone showed up at Eric and May Lou Schroeder's house for the annual pool party.
The kids looked like they'd already known each other for years, and the adults relaxed in the shade as everyone filled up on fantastic barbecue furnished by Gary Marra BBQ.
A day was planned to stay out of the hot Kansas sun, and there's no better place to stay cool than POWERPLAY!
Wolrds of Fun Amusement Park is always a big hit, and this year was no different!
Who could pass up a couple of days at IRONWOOD camp, sleeping in cabins and getting crazy?
On a more serious note, the kids visited the Liberty Memorial, the first monument built to honor the fallen of World War I.
You think anyone enjoyed spending a day at the lake house of one of the CFP sponsors? No, not much!
A nice day was spent relaxing at the lake of Heritage Park,
where we met the loser of the earlier pig race!
A pancake breakfast at New Century Airport gave everyone a chance to see some vintage aircraft of the Commemorative Air Force group, and for the kids to appear on the Celtic Crossings radio show. When word came that the pancakes might be under attack, Dominick and Raymond suited up and took to the air to ward off the invasion!
See You Next Year!
One of the favorite activities for the girls was a visit to the SATORAUM Salon and Spa, one of Kansas City's elite salons, where they were given the royal treatment by SATORAUM's owner and staff.
